Who we are
SiteAlive is a website uptime monitoring and status checking service. We help people find out whether a website is down for everyone or just for them. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it. We've written it in plain language because we believe privacy policies should actually be readable.
What we collect and why
When you visit SiteAlive, we collect basic information about your visit: which pages you viewed, your approximate location (country level), device type, and referrer. This is used to understand how the service is used and to improve it. We do not track individual users across sessions.
When you search for a website, we log the domain you checked and the result of the check. This allows us to build uptime history and show trends. We do not associate these checks with your identity — they are stored as anonymous records.
If you submit a "Works for me" or "Down for me" report, we store that report along with your approximate location (if detectable) and network type. These reports are used to help other users understand whether an issue is local or global. We do not store your IP address permanently or link reports to your identity.
We store your recent DNS lookup history in your browser's local storage so you can quickly re-run past queries. This data never leaves your device and can be cleared at any time using the "Clear" button in the DNS Lookup tool.
Our other tools
Beyond website status checking, SiteAlive offers a growing set of network and website diagnostic tools. Each tool is designed to do one job clearly, without turning the page into an ad-heavy or overly intrusive experience.
Shows your public IP address, ISP, approximate location, and whether your connection appears to use a VPN, proxy, or hosting network.
Provides a simple public API for IP address and network information.
Looks up geolocation and network details for a specific IP address.
Checks whether an IP looks suspicious, abusive, proxied, or otherwise high risk.
Retrieves common DNS records for a domain, such as A, AAAA, MX, TXT, and CNAME.
Helps you see how DNS changes are spreading across different resolvers and locations.
Measures response time and reachability for a host.
Shows the network path between the checking system and a destination host.
Tests whether selected ports on a host appear open and reachable.
Displays raw HTTP response headers returned by a website.
Reviews certificate details such as issuer, validity dates, and expiration.
Returns registration and nameserver information for a domain where available.
Finds domains that appear to share the same IP address.
Shows the IP address currently used by a website or hostname.
Checks for a handful of visible security-related signals and header settings.
Highlights browser and network fingerprinting signals, including possible WebRTC exposure.
Pulls together technical website signals in one place to give a quick overview.
Measures performance-related metrics to help you understand how quickly a page loads.
Lets you compare websites side by side using the data available in our tools.
These tools may temporarily process domains, IP addresses, headers, DNS records, routing data, or certificate details in order to return a result. We use that data to provide the tool output, improve reliability, and understand usage in aggregate. We do not sell that data.
Google Chrome extension
SiteAlive also offers a Google Chrome extension, built to give users fast access to response-time checks and related status information without needing to open the full website every time.
The extension may access the current tab's URL or domain when that is necessary to run a check for the site you are viewing. It may also communicate with SiteAlive endpoints to retrieve diagnostic results, response-time data, and related tool output.
The extension may store small pieces of local preference data in your browser, such as recent lookups or basic settings, so the experience feels faster and more convenient. That local browser storage is not the same as us building a personal profile about you.
We do not use the extension to read the content of your emails, forms, messages, or private documents. We do not sell extension data, and we do not use the extension as a hidden behavioural tracking tool across unrelated browsing activity.
What we don't collect
We want to be clear about what we do not do:

- ✓We do not store full IP addresses in our analytics.
Cookies
SiteAlive uses minimal cookies — primarily to keep the site functioning correctly and to maintain basic session state. We do not use marketing or tracking cookies. If you have a browser extension that blocks cookies, SiteAlive will continue to work normally.
Third-party services
SiteAlive uses a small number of third-party services to operate. These include cloud infrastructure providers for hosting and database storage, as well as advertising and analytics partners to support the service. These providers process data on our behalf and are contractually required to handle it securely. We do not integrate social media trackers or cross-site tracking pixels.
Data retention
Check history and user reports are retained to power uptime charts and incident history. We periodically remove old records to keep the database lean. Usage analytics are aggregated and anonymised — no raw logs are kept beyond 90 days. Local storage data (such as DNS lookup history) is stored only on your device and is never sent to our servers.
Your rights
You have the right to know what data we hold about you, to request its deletion, and to object to how it's used. Because we don't collect personally identifiable information by default, there is typically nothing to delete — but if you have a concern, please reach out and we'll address it promptly.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes to this privacy policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. We won't change how we handle your data in a way that's worse for users without giving clear notice.
